“…absurd culture of Hollywood celebrity and people manipulating themselves for superficial reasons…”
I was quite surprised to hear about “The Weeknd” (Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) posting new pictures of himself. Selfies, of course, but a bit different from recent selfies.

Is this just a joke? To me, conceivably, but not to Abel. He had a cause to get out there, and he went all out.
No, his new plastic surgery face IS NOT REAL.
“The Weeknd” finally came out about his new mysterious act signifying his face WILL be back to normal for the halftime show at the Super Bowl. The Musician told variety news in a brief q&a, “The significance of the entire head bandages is reflecting on the absurd culture of Hollywood celebrity and people manipulating themselves for superficial reasons to please and be validated.” indeed, this act of photo manipulation is what he did with those surgery images, minus validating anything that had a point. I can only imagine all his die-hard fans getting plastic surgery now to copy his act of standing against “Hollywood culture and celebrities.” It’s entirely possible he could have accidentally caused a lot of damage to people’s faces who truly believed these images were real. It’s 2021, and everyone is crazy. Acts like his weren’t entirely thought through (I hope).
In this case, I’d say the most simple act is the one he tried to put on. Canadian born Abel seems to be aloof to the “American” fundamental cultural issues and using “Hollywood culture” to get a few extra likes and head turns and perhaps a blog post about this and him. In other words, this might just be a private fight he’s fighting.
I’d say he fulfilled the task of getting fan base interest with the chilling post-surgery photoshopped pictures of himself. I guess we will know tonight at the annual super bowl halftime show what Abel has to show us.

It kept us on our toes!
